Don’t know about Kaufman, but I’m obsessed with apes - chimps in particular - because an ape is everything that makes up a human minus JUST the stuff that is exclusively human. Which means that the psychological and behavioral crimes we share with apes can be understood and forgiven, and more importantly, the beauties that we do NOT share with them, we can give ourselves some well deserved evolutionary credit for.
